Biased against Sarah Palin? Really!

November 19th, 2009 by Stephen Downes

It's interesting to see some of  the strong reaction against the Newsweek cover photo of Sarah Palin, wearing running shorts. It's been called both sexist and sexy (true fans of the movie "Spinal Tap" know what that's all about) and biased. That's a lot of dark allusions to draw from a photograph taken for Runner's World and re-used by Newsweek. It's certainly an eye-catching, talk-generating, ooh-la-la photo. It should sell a lot of magazines. But if you want to claim bias, it might make more sense to look half an inch to the left, at the headline.
